WebsterLaw Expands.

After 27 years of sole practice, Donald Webster has been joined in the practice by Nick Smith as a Senior Solicitor.  Nick has 15 years experience as a qualified lawyer and brings a wealth of experience in property and commercial law to the practice.  Nick is a family man with his wife Flick and their 3 small children keeping him very busy.  Nick has the same philosophy as Donald where the interests of the client come first. Already Nick has made an impact on the firm with his cheerful disposition and his work ethic.  Clients have seen his arrival as a big plus for the firm as they have seen real progress on their files.  Donald, Janis and Nick work well as a team, which in a small practice such as ours, is a real necessity.

Christmas
With Christmas looming, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all our clients a very Merry Christmas and a very happy and prosperous New Year.  We hope Santa brings you all the presents that you deserve.  We advise that our office will be shut from 23rd December at 1 pm until Monday 17th January.  The first week back, we will be short staffed as we make the most of the weather and our families’.  However, we will keep a watch on our answerphone daily over the break and if you have any need to contact us, we will be able to return calls.  Please leave a detailed message and contact numbers.  We do have certain matters which we will be dealing with while the office is closed so those clients who read this with settlements etc while the office is shut need not worry.  We will be dealing with those ones for you.

Trusts and Gifting
The Government has signalled an end to the current Gift Duties regime as at the beginning of October next year (2011).  The requirement to gift off a maximum of $27,000 per person annually without having to pay Gift Duty is to be abolished.  What we do not know yet is what safeguards the Government will want to put into place so that the system will not be abused.  We will be advising clients on the best way forward once we have those details.  In the meantime, until the finer points are known, we are recommending that the gifting continue as before.
